​Sand Collecting

Sand. Each grain is unique. A gem, a shell, a bit of mountain. Found on beaches, in deserts, in river basins; sand is tossed by seas, ground by glaciers, and blown by the winds.

 

Sand Collecting, a crowd-sourced global project, was born on Siesta Key beach in southwest Florida. Its purpose is to retrieve and document sands from around the globe with the help of amateur collectors. Each scoop of sand tells its own story of time and place.
