You can join the global project. Contribute your favorite sand.
It's easy! Here's how to have your sand sample appear here for all the world to see:
Collect it
Collect a cup of sand from your favorite spot. Think ocean beaches, mountain streams, desert dunes, or arctic glaciers. Have a friend take your picture while you scoop!
Bag it
Seal up your sample in two zip-top plastic bags -- one inside the other.
Mark it
Write a note with your sand describing where you collected it. The more information the better. For example, "Sand from Siesta Key public beach near the red guard tower, Sarasota, Florida, USA, on June 30, 2014." Make sure to write down your name and your email address, as well! Your smart phone can even pinpoint your GPS coordinates

Send it
Send your sand sample, along with your note, in a padded mailer or small box to
